Many vacations are spoiled because of lack of preparation. If you're going on a last-minute vacation that involves air travel, the risk is even greater because you don’t have much time to plan for your trip in detail. However, this doesn’t mean all last-minute vacations will end in disaster. If you keep the following dos and don'ts in mind, you will be able to travel not only comfortably, but safely as well.
Do Make Your Reservations Right Away
If you are going on a last-minute vacation, you won't be able to take advantage of early bird discounts, which are offered only on bookings done several months prior to the flight. However, you can book a flight by phone or online. You don't need to get in line at the airport when you get there to buy your tickets.
Do Keep Your Confirmation Number
Making reservations online or by phone may be convenient, but not if you lose your confirmation number. You need this to claim your ticket once you get to the airport. Keep a print out of your travel confirmation and attach this with your other travel documents.
Do Keep Your Travel Documents With You All The Time
You will need to present your passport and other travel documents several times when you are traveling by air. It makes perfect sense to have these documents with you all the time. Keep them in your carry-on or in your pockets if there is enough space. Never put your travel documents in your check-in luggage.
Do Let Others Know Where You're Going
Let the people you are leaving behind know where you are going. Leave your itinerary with a family member or a friend. This can make it easier for your loved ones to notify the authorities in case something goes wrong during your trip and you may need help.
Do Pack Light
Some people bring so many things when they go on a trip. They reason out they want to be prepared for everything. However, do you really have to put your entire closet in your suitcase? It is much better to bring only the essentials and to pack as light as you can. Pack light and you won't be as stressed out or get tired carrying your heavy luggage around, especially when you are going through airports.
Don't Let Your Mail Pile Up Inside Your Mailbox
While you are away, mail will keep coming. Unless someone picks up your mail from your mailbox and takes them inside your house, they will accumulate. A stuffed mailbox is a sign for burglars. They will immediately know your house is empty. Ask your neighbor or a relative to collect your mail for you every day while you are away.
Don't Be Late For Your Military Travel Flight
Most airlines require passengers to check in a couple of hours before their scheduled departure. Two hours will give you enough time to check in your luggage, go through customs if necessary, and find your seat on the plane without any hassle.
Keep in mind these dos and don'ts and you can expect to have a stress-free and safe air travel even it's at the last minute.
